july and august

wowowowow. we have some really spectacular shows coming up! our summer here is shaping up to be pretty spectacular.

next month we are showing the work of a very talented local artist, jessica johnson. we’ve been working with jessica since the first day we opened our doors and have tons of her illustrative prints here, but this will be the first time we’ll be showing her original pieces! she has lots of new work and it all has this fabulous old timey feel to it. it reminds you of the 20’s and 30’s, vaudeville, circuses, etc etc.

we will post details for the show soooon.

also, we have an awesome show lined up for august! i posted not too long ago about jolby, a collab of josh kenyon and colby nichols. this show is going to be soooo fun! we’re officially counting down the days with them. check out their site and follow along with us!

we just got a new shipment in from imm-living – a cool and modern new company based out of canada. lucky us, this was only HALF of what we ordered and we loved this stuff sooo much that we can’t wait until we get the rest of it in!

what we received in this first half were a gob of usb flash drives that are totally awesome and really inexpensive to boot. yeah, you can get flash drives from let’s say, office max, but none as cool as these.

are those not totally cool! all these flash are 2 gigs. the glasses and feather also double as bookmarks! these are all available on our website right now as well! we didn’t get many so hurry! i have a feeling they will go fast!!

i just wanted to post a couple pics from our first friday show, which was last friday. the show was fantastic, the art was gorgeous, and despite the bad weather we had a great turnout! sorry if you see random random objects in the photos (like the scanner gun). i was taking the pictures from behind our front desk!

and here is our wall with nicky’s paintings. one of my favorites (and a favorite among guests) was the giant painting in the center of the wall! it is quite amazing if i do say so myself.

first friday news

once again, it is getting close to our monthly show. in june we’ll be featuring the work of local artist nicky kriara.

nicky is a very talented and well rounded artist and the work we’ll be showing will be a little more abstract from our usual fair. sometimes we like to shake things up a bit though and her work is absolutely beautiful. we’re definitely excited to be working with her.

as always, we’ll be providing snacks and drinks for this event and nicky will be in attendance as well. if you’re free, please step out in the beautiful weather and look at some beautiful artwork. also, check out the press release below!

There are not many artists who are well-rounded enough to say they can successfully mold, carve, paint, draw and build art. Not just ambiguous art either, but work with substance and meaning. One local artist possesses the drive to tackle all those methods and more.

For the month of June, Artful Goods is proud to feature the work of Nicky Peterson. Though a skilled ceramicist, she is a fine art painter by design. With a natural sense for color and composition, Nicky creates earthy and personal interpretations of her thoughts. She is influenced by her environment, ecology, semiotics, and social and cultural issues.

Nicky is an Oregon native and presently resides in Portland. After receiving a BFA in Ceramics from the University of Oregon, she opened the doors to her own gallery, Epitome. Currently she is creating artwork and installations, showing her work throughout Oregon, California, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin.

WOW! we are getting some gorgeous weather here in portland. it’s pretty amazing and warm and all around fantastic! wouldn’t it be nice to go out and about, soak in some rays and just do whatever? luckily here at the gallery we have humongous windows so we can enjoy the nice weather, even inside.

aside from that, we have some fabulous news! we’re now carrying some prints by jolby. who is jolby you ask? jolby is a collaborative partnership between colby nichols here in portland and josh kenyon, who lives in chicago. two very talented designers and artists teaming up to make double the trouble. ok, not really… but they are pumping out some amazing work.

both of these prints are available NOW in our store and soon they will also be available on our website. one more piece of good news is that they will be showing here at the gallery in august. we’ll be hosting their first ever zine release! we’ll keep you all updated on this show the closer we get, but have no doubts… it will be totally AWESOME.

It takes a truly creative mind to construct an iconic image that clearly represents the music that defines the times. Always a constant companion, visual art conveys the depths of a musician in a way no other medium can other than the music itself.

For the month of May, Artful Goods is proud to feature the work of Dan Stiles. A Portland resident, Dan is best known for his poster art. He possesses a talent for melding music and art together. He attributes much of his influence to modern art, album covers, Japanese design and old comic books.

Dan has contributed countless images for bands including: Death Cab for Cutie, Sonic Youth, Arctic Monkeys, Cat Power, Hot Chip, Sigur Ros, Feist, TV on The Radio, Dizzee Rascal, Wilco, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and many others. In addition, he has been recognized in publications such as Graphis, Print, Step, GQ and Rockport Press.

next friday we’ll be having our monthly show again and we’re all super stoked here about it! our featured artist will be dan stiles who is best known for his rock posters.

we’re really digging his stuff and will be showing a lot of his prints for the whole month of may. we’ll also be carrying tons of his prints in our store on a permanent basis as well, which is awesome.

you might recognize many of dan’s prints and i definitely suggest checking out his personal website and taking a peek. he really has a way of creating some clever, well designed images and you can tell he’s been doing this a long time. his art is so design driven, and we LOVE that!

hi again!

a couple days ago, we got some new merchandise in from strangeco. we’ve been trying to decide for quite some time whether or not to carry vinyl toys and lucky for you, we decided that yes, yes we should!

we’ve got quite a little collection in the store now and they are so cute and fun. it’s hard not to crack a little smile when you take a look at them.
